Research Lab on Deep Mediatisation
Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw
We focus on analysing the effects of the development of new technologies on society and on communication and social interaction. We study the transformations in modes of communication related to the use of media, especially digital media, and their impact on society at multiple levels. Our research and teaching activities aim to understand the impact of digital media on society and to develop methods of analysis and learning in this area.
WHAT WE DO
- We analyse (deep) mediatisation of religion and spirituality: We explore processes of deep mediatisation through examples of religion and spirituality in digital media, in the context of phenomena such as individualisation of datafication.
- We study religious practices in digital media: We analyse religious practices mediated by digital media, such as online worship broadcasts and their impact on the community, especially in times of pandemic.
- We analyse phenomena related to online spirituality: We focus on exploring various aspects of spirituality in digital media.
- We explore the transformation of religious and spiritual authority: We analyse changes in the perception of religious authority in the context of digital media.
- We analyse apps focused on religion, spirituality, and mindfulness: We examine the types of narratives present in these apps and their relation to secular discourses, such as scientific or economic, among others.
- We explore the relationship between AI and spirituality: We analyse the use of generative AI in applications related to spirituality and their impact on the transformation of narratives and authority.
